Starwoods last choice promotion was a little lackluster in my opinion. Not only did they make it super complicated, but it also was not very lucrative. I know hotels are doing much better this year, and as such have drastically cut down on the promotion front, but I still think there is a huge opportunity to not only reward your loyal customers, but also build your brand and attract new customers by continually featuring great and innovative promotions.
The new Q4 Starwood promotion is far from innovative, but it’s actually somewhat rewarding. Staring October 1st…
– Stay 1-2 nights, earn 2x points
– Stay 3+ nights, earn 3x points
– 250 bonus points for all stays booked through SPG.com
– 500 bonus points for all stays booked through the SPG app
I love the fact that Starwood is attempting to feature their app. I think they’ve made great strides in improving the app and I would love to see them make it even better. I remember a couple years ago on a last minute trip to Cabo San Lucas I found that I was unable to completed a Cash + Points reservation using their app. Obviously this was frustrating and made no sense, but they have since corrected this issue/added this feature. I hope they continue to find ways to make the features available on the website, clear and intuitive on the App.
Now to the promo. While this promotion is far from creative (aside from the App stuff), its nice to earn 3x points on longer stays for 3 nights or more. This really rewards business travelers who tend to stay for a week at a time.
Now you should be aware that there is a long list of non-participating properties, which can be found here. Looking at this list was a total shocker to me after seeing solid properties like the W Lake Shore and W City Center in Chicago on the excluded list. I also saw the wonderful Le Parker Meridien on the list as well.
In any case if you have a longer stay planned and can avoid these no-participating properties, you have a potentially very lucrative promotion opportunity on your hands!
